THE CARS

A Late Model sedan is a purpose built Speedway Sedan designed specifically to go fast on dirt oval tracks!
For all intensive purposes a Late Model is a specially constructed race car featuring a round tube chrome-moly or steel chassis and a body manufactured from aluminium and plastic. The body reflects a US Late Model Sedan (road car) with styles such as Pontiac Grand Prix, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Dodge Intrepid etc proving popular.

A 600-750 horsepower motor sits up front, ropelling the car (via a quick-change differential) around a 500 meter oval at speeds in excess of 150kph. Being a US based class the cars are all left hand drive.

"Late Model racing is a promoter's dream, they are fast, light weight and put on exciting racing."
David Lander (Prominent Speedway Promoter)

The AJN/Nylander Motorsport race team was one of the key contributors to the foundation of the Late Model division in Australia, with Alan Nylander building and racing the first ever Late Model in Australia late in 1997. Since then the team has moved on to bigger and better things. In 2003 our race team was described by many as the most professionally presented Late Model outfit in Australia, and won the 'Best Presented Car and Team' award at the annual Pro Dirt Series awards night.
Although only introduced to Australia in the 1997-1998 season the Late Model division has shown steady growth and is now spreading further a field from its Western Australian base. Late Model Racing Australia East Coast now has a series run similarly to the WA based Pro Dirt series.
The popularity of Late Model racing in the US is such that it rivals Sprintcar racing as the top division turning laps on oval tracks. In Western Australia the Late Models are a crowd favourite and are one of, if not the most popular divisions of Speedway racing in WA. With the thunderous roar of the V8 engine and the radical looks of the cars, they are sure to get even more popular in years to come.
